How to Upgrade a Laptop's HDD to an SSD | 1. Clone Acer Laptop's HDD to SSD 2. Swap the HDD with the SSD...Complete instructions |
"I have an old Acer Aspire laptop with a 256GB hard disk. Recently, I've purchased a new SSD, and I intend to upgrade the hard drive to it. I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with how to replace an Acer hard drive with a new SSD? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!"
Most Acer laptops, particularly those in the Aspire series, typically come with a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) by default. For instance, the Acer Aspire One comes with a 120GB HDD, while the Aspire V5/R3 has a 500GB HDD. If your computer is an older model or experiences lagging or freezing issues, upgrading to a Solid State Drive (SSD) is highly recommended.
As is well-known, SSD outperforms traditional HDD in terms of faster read and write speed, lower power consumption, silent operation, shock resistance, and compact size. Consequently, many PC users, including Acer laptop users, opt to upgrade from HDD to SSD or even clone SSD to a larger SSD to enhance their computer's performance. To address this requirement, we have prepared this guide to walk you through the process of easily and correctly upgrading your Acer Aspire laptop to an SSD. Simply follow the steps below, and you'll accomplish the task.
The whole process can be divided into two parts: the first is to clone the files on the old HDD to the new SSD with a data backup and clone tool like Todo Backup here; then the second is to replace the internal hard drive.
To begin, insert the SSD into a 2.5" SATA hard drive enclosure. Connect the enclosure to your laptop using a USB 3.0/2.0 cable (USB 3.0 will be significantly faster than USB 2.0).
Step 1. Open Todo Backup tool and choose "Create Backup" on the home page, then click "Select backup contents".
Step 2. Since you want to back up your disk, simply click "Disk" to start the backup.
Step 3. Todo Backup offers you options. You can choose to back up a whole disk or a certain partition as needed, and then click "OK".
Step 4. Choose the destination where you want to save the backup. You can opt to save the disk to a local drive or to a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) device.
Step 5. Click "Backup Now". After the backup process is completed, you can right-click any one of the tasks to further manage your backup, such as recovering it or creating an incremental backup, and so on.
Step 1. Shut down your laptop, unplug the power, remove the battery, and uninstall the old hard drive.
Step 2. Take the SSD out of the enclosure and install it into the laptop using the SATA cable.
Step 3. Reinstall the battery, plug in the power, and restart the laptop.
