Now that computers are an essential part of our educational systems, labor force, and personal lives, it is important to remember that we need to adjust them to suit us. This means getting settings right for everything from screen brightness and ergonomics to font size, in the interest of healthy computer use.
Font size determines how big text appears on your computer screen. If you have bad eyesight, you may find it difficult to read small fonts on-screen. Likewise, fonts that are too large can strain your eyes as well.
So, if you have been having trouble reading text on your computer screen lately, it's time to change the font size in Windows 11/10/8/7, whichever version you use.
Changing the font size in Windows depends on which version you're using. Since navigation differs slightly between each version of Windows, you might have trouble finding the exact settings to increase or decrease the font size in Windows 11/10/8/7.
Windows 10 is one of the most widely used versions of Windows. If you're using Windows 10, here's how to change the font size on it:
Step 1: Click the Windows button, scroll down to “Settings,” and click it to open the Windows Settings menu.
Step 2. On the Settings screen, tap on the “Ease of Access” option to open the Ease of Access settings.
Step 3. On the next screen, you'll find the “Larger Text” option at the top. This has a slider that you can move left or right to increase or decrease the font size. The sample text is also up top. After adjusting the font, tap on “Apply” to apply the changes.
If you can't find the font size settings using the above steps, you can search for the term “Make Text Bigger” in the search bar on the Settings screen.
Even though Windows 11 is relatively new, many people have already upgraded to this version of the operating system. If you're using Windows 11, follow these steps to find and change your font size:
1. Click the Start button, then select "Settings" to open the Windows Settings menu. You can also find "Settings" in the "Most Recently Used" section. Alternatively, search for "Settings" in the search bar to find the Windows 11 Settings.
Step 2. On the Settings screen, look for the "Accessibility" option on the left and tap it.
Step 3: At the top of the Accessibility page, you'll see an option for “Text Size.” Tap it.
Step 4. You will see a slider with sample text that allows you to adjust the font size. Make your changes and click “Apply” to apply the modifications.
Windows 8 and 7 are older versions of Windows that many users might still have. If you have Windows 8 or Windows 7 installed on your computer, change the font size using these steps instead.
Step 1. Right-click on the desktop.
Step 2. Click on "Screen Resolution" to select it.
Step 3: Next, click on the “Make text and other items larger or smaller” option on the next page.
Click on "Make text and other items larger or smaller"
Step 4: You'll now see a slider that lets you adjust the font size. You can also check the box for "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" to get a uniform font size across all your monitors.
Step 5: Choose a font size, then click Apply to confirm the changes.
This is all about how to change font size in Windows. Aside from changing font size in Windows, there might be times when you need to change font size in a PDF, which can be done using a PDF editor tool.
Alternatively, you can use the Magnifier function on Windows to zoom in on specific parts of the screen when your cursor is in that area. You will need to open this feature before you can use it.
Please follow these steps to enable the magnifier feature.
Step 1: Open the Windows Settings menu from the Start menu, or click on its shortcut if you have one.
Step 2: Click on “Ease of Access,” and proceed to the next screen.
Step 3: Click on the "Magnifying Glass" option in the left-hand pane.
Step 4. Next, you'll see the option to Turn on Magnifier. Toggle this switch to turn on the Magnifier. It will immediately zoom in on whatever part of the screen your cursor is on.
However, this feature might not be practical in most cases, which is why there's a shortcut you can enable when you need it and turn off afterward, without having to navigate to Settings each time.
Turn on Magnifier - Windows key + Plus sign (+)
Close Magnifier - Windows + Esc
You can also customize the magnifier's functionality, including your preferred zoom level and view. You'll find all these settings on the same “Magnifier Settings” screen.
