The MacBook Air is a line of ultraportable Macintosh notebook computers developed and marketed by Apple Inc.

The first-generation MacBook Air was a 13.3-inch model, announced on January 15, 2008 at the Macworld Conference & Expo and released the same day. It was promoted as "the world's thinnest notebook". It featured a custom Intel Merom processor and Intel GMA graphics chip. At the end of 2008, the CPU was updated to a faster, non-custom Penryn processor, Nvidia GeForce graphics were integrated, hard drive capacity was increased, and the micro-DVI video port was replaced with Mini DisplayPort. In mid-2009, it received a minor update in conjunction with the rest of the MacBook Pro family, which included a slight boost in battery capacity and faster Penryn processors.

On October 20, 2010, Apple introduced a redesigned 13.3-inch model with an improved case, screen resolution, battery, and flash memory in place of a hard disk, along with an all-new 11.6-inch model that compromised on cost, weight, battery life, and performance relative to the 13.3-inch model, but offered better performance than a typical netbook of the time.

On July 20, 2011, Apple released a new model with the same case design, but with Sandy Bridge dual-core Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, a backlit keyboard, Thunderbolt in place of Mini DisplayPort, an upgrade to Bluetooth 4.0, and similar maximum storage and memory options.

While Mac OS X is generally regarded as faster, smoother, and simpler than Windows, it still requires occasional maintenance to keep it running at its best. Files and applications take up space on your hard drive, which can eventually slow your computer down. The more space you take up on your hard drive, the slower it will run. Once your Mac OS X hard drive starts getting full, you'll need to clean it up.

Some MacBook cleaning tips: 1. Free up hard drive space: Regularly check and delete unnecessary files, apps, and downloads. Use the "Recently Deleted" folder in "Finder" to clear cached items from deleted projects. 2. Optimize storage settings: In "System Preferences," choose "Storage" and enable "Optimize Storage." This will automatically manage your files, like removing unwatched iTunes movies and TV shows. 3. Clean app caches: Many apps accumulate temporary files and caches that can take up significant space. Use third-party tools or manually find and delete these files (usually located in ~/Library/Caches). 4. Uninstall unused apps: In the "Applications" folder, locate infrequently used or outdated apps, drag them to the Trash, and empty it. 5. Update system and software: Keep MacOS and all applications up to date to ensure efficient and error-free performance. 6. Manage startup items: In "System Preferences" > "Users & Groups," select your account, then click "Login Items" to manage apps that launch automatically at startup. 7. Check for duplicate files: Use specialized tools to identify and delete duplicate images, music, or documents. 8. Maintain disk permissions: Run the "Disk Utility" and use the "Repair Disk Permissions" feature to ensure your file system is functioning correctly. 9. Regularly restart: After extended Mac usage, restarting clears memory and terminates unresponsive processes. 10. Perform disk cleanup: Use "Disk Utility" for disk cleanup and defragmentation, which can enhance hard drive performance. Remember to back up important data before any cleaning process to prevent accidental loss.

Delete all localization files except for the ones you use; this can free up to 2GB of space.

3. Open iPhoto and delete any photos you no longer need. iPhoto has its own Trash, so be sure to empty it.

4. Open iTunes and delete any music or podcasts you no longer need.

5. Browse through your “Documents,” “Movies,” and “Pictures” folders, and delete any junk you no longer need.

6. Clear out old email messages from your inbox or other email programs.

7. Navigate to ~/Library/Caches/ and delete the contents of any apps you don't use often. Do the same in ~/Library/Preferences/.

8. Navigate to ~/Library/Safari/, and delete the Icons folder.

9. If you don't need it, you can now remove the Xcode installer from /Applications/Installers/.

10. Remove any unused iChat icons from ~/Pictures/iChat Icons/. After you've done all of these, your hard drive should be much cleaner and have more free space. However, this is very time-consuming and difficult to do on your own. A Mac cleaner will make this all much easier.

It also includes an app uninstaller that removes applications and their associated files completely. When you drag some apps to the Trash, they leave behind preferences and other files that take up valuable space on your hard drive – and some of those files can even slow down your MacBook. That's why it's good to use a dedicated tool to uninstall apps thoroughly.
