How to resize/delete a dynamic volume

Updated by Linda on March 17, 2022

You might need to resize a dynamic volume when:

    • You find that you have run out of disk space on a volume and need to free up more. • You want to create a striped volume across multiple hard disks because striped volumes can improve the read and write speed for all your files and data, which can be read from and written to several disks simultaneously. • You want to resize a striped volume, mirrored volume, or RAID-5 volume on a dynamic disk, but the built-in Windows Disk Management can only resize simple volumes and mirrored volumes.

To solve all the above issues, sometimes you need to delete GPT dynamic disk so that you can resize it. AOMEI Partition Assistant – the disk partition manager, can shrink, expand, and delete 5 types of GPT dynamic volumes: Simple Volume, Mirrored Volume, Striped Volume, Spanned Volume, and RAID-5 Volume.

How to Extend and Resize GPT Partitions

Step 1: Locate the Source of the Sound

Right-click a volume on the dynamic disk and select "Resize/Move".

Select Volume

Step 2. Resize the image

    • To **shrink** the volume – Drag the Volume pane to the left, or use the "Size" option to adjust the volume you want to shrink, and then click **OK** to confirm. • To **extend** the volume – If there is no unallocated space, repeat the shrinking process to create enough unallocated space. In the new popup, drag the edge of the volume to the unallocated space. Click **OK** to confirm.
