Partitions might need to be recovered from unallocated space when they are accidentally deleted or lost. Accidental deletion of partitions can be easily understood, but how do partitions get lost automatically? Changes in the operating system, virus or spyware infection, or a newly installed drive often result in unallocated disk space on the hard drive.
Case 1:
Hello, my main issue is that my data partition is now showing as unallocated. I have a 500GB Seagate hard drive mainly used for external storage, which has three partitions: A, B, and C. Partition A contains all my data, while the other two are empty. After installing Windows 7, partitions A and B merged into an unallocated space. How can I recover this unallocated partition?
Case 2:
Also, a user, after describing his situation, expressed the desire to recover a partition from unallocated space for free: “Note: I know there are partition recovery software that can recover unallocated partition, but I'm looking for a free one.” So, how can we recover unallocated partition for free?
Here, we will share a free tool – tools Partition Master – to recover unallocated space without partitioning.
If you suspect that a partition is missing and needs to be recovered from unallocated space, you can follow these steps to check:
1. Click the "Start Menu", then click "Control Panel". Select the "Administrative Tools" icon, then choose "Computer Management".
2. Click the "Disk Management" heading in the left pane of the next window. This will list the drives installed on your computer.
If the partition is not displayed here, it is lost, and you can start the recovery process from the unallocated space.
AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional perfectly supports 32 bit and 64 bit Windows for business users (Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP).
Eassos PartitionMaster Server Edition works perfectly on Windows Server 2016/2008/2003, etc. both 32 bit and 64 bit.
Download it for free, install on your PC and activate it now for partition recovery.
Step 1: Launch Partition Master and click “Partition Recovery”. Select the hard drive which contains lost partitions, then click “New Scan”.
Step 2: Wait patiently for the software to perform the "Quick Scan" and "Deep Scan". It will mark your deleted partition as "Lost" under the "Status" column. Select the lost partition, then click "Recover".
You can also double-click on the partition you want to search and preview its content, then click “OK” to confirm.
Step 3: Wait for the partition to be restored and then click “Finish”.
If the Partition Recovery Wizard in Partition Master fails to recover your lost/deleted partition, how can you fix an unallocated hard drive without losing data? Don't miss out on Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition – another powerful drive/partition saver tool.
Step 1: Select and scan the lost partition
Launch the Data Recovery Wizard, select "Lost Partition," and click "Scan" to search for all lost data. If you have multiple lost partitions, you may be able to identify them by their partition size.
Note: Since the Windows operating system does not support Linux file systems, Ext2 or Ext3 partitions will appear as lost partitions without drive letters in the software. To recover data from an Ext2/Ext3 partition, follow these steps.
Step 2: Refine the scan results
With many files to scan, you can choose the file category, such as Images, Videos, Documents, Audio, and Others, via the Quick Filter. If you remember the file name, simply search for it in the box at the top-right corner.
Step 3: Preview and recover data from the lost partition
Before recovery, you can preview the files to make sure that they are the data you need. Select all the required files and click “Recover” to restore them.
Using either of the software from the previous section, you can easily fix an unallocated external hard drive in Windows 10. Alternatively, you can try fixing the unallocated space on your hard drive using CMD. Follow this step-by-step guide:
