The feature-rich Windows 11/10 has been released. Some Windows fans are ready to upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10/11. Or, Windows XP users would like to seize the opportunity and jump straight to the latest Windows OS. Whether you want to replace your old computer or upgrade to Windows 10 on the same computer, moving data and programs to a new computer/OS is a big issue. When it comes to file or data migration, we can clone the entire drive from the old computer to the new one, or backup and move critical data to the new PC. Windows Easy Transfer is another option that you can use to transfer data to Windows 7 and Windows 8 but not to Windows 8.1, 8.x, and Windows 10/11. You can visit our Windows 10/11 Upgrade Solutions page for more information.

Moving programs to a new computer with a different operating system (such as Windows 10) can be trickier than moving files. The options for migrating software directly or indirectly to a new OS and computer are described below.

Transfer software/applications to a new computer via Windows 10/11 backup files or an in-place upgrade

With the Todo PCTrans Free tool, you can迁移你的 data, settings, and programs without an internet connection or needing both computers on the same local network. This indirect method also supports transferring software to a new operating system on the same computer. As a powerful utility, it offers the convenience of being free to use.

Step 1: Create an image of the installed application

1. Run Todo PCTrans on your computer and choose "Backup & Restore", then click "Start" to proceed.

Run Todo PCTrans

2. In the Backup Method window, select Data Only and click Next to proceed.

Select Data Backup

3. Click “Browse” to choose a location to save the backup file.

4. Under “Apps,” select the app that you want to back up.

Select the apps to transfer Select the apps to transfer

5. Tap “Backup” to start creating a backup image of the selected app. When it's done, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Restore the app from the backup file you just created

Note: If the application is already on your computer, it will not restore the app image to your computer. You'll need to uninstall the existing application first, then try the steps below again.

1. Insert the hard drive with the backup file into your computer, then open the PCTransImage folder.

Double-click the backup file to open the Todo PCTrans Tool interface automatically.

Select Backup Program

2. On the Applications tab, check the programs and apps you want to restore from the image, then click Recover.

Directly transfer software/apps to a new computer with Windows 10/11

With Direct Transfer, your computer needs to be on the same local network, and it doesn't support moving the software to a new operating system on the same computer.

Step 1. Run Todo PCTrans on both the source and target computers and connect the two via network.

1. Under "PC to PC," choose the direction of the transfer, and then click Start to continue.

Select Computer to Computer

2. Select the computer you want to control. Enter the device name of the other person, then type in your account password or verification code. Click "Connect" to proceed.

You can check the verification code at the top right-hand corner of the main "PC to PC" screen on the controlled computer.

Connect two computers

Step 2: Choose the categories of apps, files, and accounts that you want to transfer over the Internet.

To transfer data selectively, click “Edit” under each category and select specific items.

Choose an app, file, or account

Step 3: Click “Transfer” to start transferring your apps, files, and accounts over the network from one computer to another.
