Sometimes, the hard drive you need to clone might not be immediately available, or you might need to clone a disk from a client computer located somewhere else. In these cases, you can use the remote cloning process.
The Tool Backup Center, coupled with Todo Backup, offers a reliable and secure remote hard drive cloning solution. It enables you to easily create, manage, and view data replication tasks from a remote location. The following guide showcases its user-friendly operation and seamless functionality.
First, install the Backup Center tool on the machine that will manage the disk duplication process. When you launch the application, a service login page opens in your default browser. Proceed to create your own account and password.
After signing in, you can access the Management Portal to efficiently manage the client computers that have disks you want to replicate. This product supports managing multiple computers. Follow the steps that follow to add them.
The Backup Center tool provides two simple ways to onboard the computer with the disk that you want to copy to the management portal. Choose one of these methods to add your computer.
1. Deployment Configuration
tools Backup Center collaborates with tools Todo Backup to facilitate remote disk replication. You can directly install tools Todo Backup on the client computer and then add it to the tools Backup Center management portal using three deployment configurations: Server Address, Match Code, and Client Connection Port. All these configurations can be found within the tools Backup Center.
When installing Todo Backup Enterprise on the client computer, please check the "Central Management Component", and then fill in the "Server Address", "Client Connection Port", and "Match Code".
**2. Generate the Todo Backup MSI package** The Tool Center also provides a locally installed Todo Backup MSI package that is pre-configured with authentication factors. To obtain this package, click **Generate** in the Management Portal, and then install it on all remote client computers. Upon completion of the installation, the client computers will be automatically added to the Management Portal.
If you have to manage tens of computers, it is advisable to create multiple groups based on your needs to better organize your clients. You can easily create new static groups by specifying a group name and description. There are no limitations to the number of clients you can add to a static group. Additionally, the Backup Center tool also allows for the creation of dynamic groups. This is achieved by specifying a particular IP address range or operating system version, and only computers that fall within this range and meet the requirements can join such a group.
By following these steps, you can create a task in the Backup Center management portal of the tool to remotely replicate your hard drive. The service offers various backup options, including file, partition, disk, and system backups. Click on Create New Task on the left side, and then select your hard drive as the Backup Content. Furthermore, you can customize the task by setting options such as Storage Path, Plan Name, and Backup Strategy.
The Deploy to Client option on the page lets you choose a group or assign the task that you create to specific computers for centralized data replication. You can set these options now, or wait and set them as the final stage of the Deploy Task in the next step.
After configuring the computer, creating the group, and building the backup task, you can deploy the disk copy task to the client computer with the hard drive. Select the task and click Deploy Task. If you didn't set up a deployment group when you created the backup task, you can choose the group or specific computer to deploy to at this stage, then click OK. This starts the disk copy process via the Todo Backup Enterprise agent on the client computer.
Remote hard drive cloning offers a convenient and efficient way to transfer data, create backups, or upgrade systems. By following the steps outlined above and utilizing the Backup Center tool, you can clone a hard drive remotely while ensuring the safety and integrity of your data. Whether you're an individual seeking to protect personal files or a business looking to streamline data migration, mastering remote hard drive cloning with Backup Center is a valuable skill in today's technologically advanced world.
**1. Can I install a cloned hard drive on another computer?** Yes, you can install a cloned hard drive on any other computer or system. To ensure a successful clone, it's recommended to use a reliable tool like Todo Backup. **2. How long does it take to clone a 1TB hard drive to an SSD?** The time it takes to clone a 1TB hard drive to an SSD depends on the specific software used, the speed of your computer, and the amount of data on the drive. On average, the process might take 1 to 3 hours. **3. Can I clone a hard drive while the computer is running?** Yes, it is possible to clone a hard drive while the computer is running, which is called "hot cloning." Many modern cloning software tools, such as Clonezilla and Acronis, offer this feature. This allows the system to continue operating during the cloning process, reducing downtime. However, it's advisable to close all non-essential applications to ensure optimal cloning results. **4. Does Windows 10 have a built-in cloning tool?** Windows 10 itself does not come with a built-in cloning utility. If you want to clone a hard drive, it's suggested to use a professional cloning software like Todo Backup. With this tool, you can replace/upgrade the disk without data loss, migrate the operating system, and clone HDD to SSD seamlessly.
